Its original purpose as a botanic garden was to cultivate and inspect the growth of commercial crops that were brought in during the colonial era for the purpose of trade. In other words, the garden is basically a research centre for plants. And that’s also part of the reason you’ll see many foreign plants that originate from all over the world.

Today, the garden has over 10,000 species of plants.
The garden is divided into 12 sections, each featuring different types of plants and terrains. If you’re feeling adventurous, there are also multiple jungle tracks within the garden. The entire park has nicely paved trails, interesting bridges and seating areas.
