The Negeri Sembilan State Museum is located at the Crafts & Cultural Handicraft Complex. It is the place where visitors get to learn more about the history of the state and to appreciate its artefacts.  The museum preserves all the local traditions and cultures under one roof.

The State Museum complex is modelled after the traditional Minangkabau architecture. It comprises the Ampang Tinggi Palace, Negeri Sembilan House and Teratak Perpatih that houses the State Museum, where handicrafts, artefacts and traditional costumes and weapons are being displayed. It is also the venue of the National Al-Quran Recitation competitions.

The people from West Sumatra who migrated and settled down in Negeri Sembilan brought with them their customs, cuisines and architecture. The peaked-roofed "buffalo horn" architecture is the most distinguished feature of the Minangkabau.

One of the exhibits at the Negeri Sembilan State Museum is the cannons. There are a few cannons on display at the compound of the museum. They are similar types of cannons which can also be found in other historical sites in Malaysia such as A Famosa Fort in Melaka and Fort Cornwallis in Penang.
