According to the locals, Lata Kinjang got its name from the mispronunciation of the word ‘kijang’ by the British who used to hunt for deer in the area. They pronounced ‘kijang’ as ‘kinjang’ and the name remains until today. Lata means waterfall, thus Lata Kinjang. Lata Kinjang is not only popular with the locals but is also a location for film shooting.
Lata Kinjang has a multi-tiered waterfall that cascades for 100 metres down the side of the mountain. The lower cascades are equally awesome. The water flows slower here compared with that at the upper cascades. It is an amazing place to take a break and to enjoy the lush green and beautiful scenery. There is a suspension bridge that connects both sides of the banks and it offers a good view of the cascading falls below.
The area near the Lata Kinjang Waterfall is home to several orang asli settlements.
