Located in Kota Bahru, the Kelantan Central Market is one of the most colourful and vibrant markets you can find in Malaysia. The market is also the most photographed site in Kelantan. It is at its busiest and liveliest early in the morning and the traders will start to pack up by early afternoon.
Surprisingly, the traders consist of mainly women, dominating majority of the stalls. These womenfolk are known to be entrepreneurial and hard bargainers. This is a legacy of female sovereign passed down by Princess Cik Siti Wan Kembang who once ruled Kelantan.
The energy is high with pretty hues of yellow, green, red and mauve vegetables and fruits filling the sights of the market. Sounds of chitter chatter fill the air with bargaining customers. What is interesting is the womenfolk sit cross-legged either on the floor or on a raised wooden platform selling their goods.
The Kelantan Central Market is truly a paradise for shopping and browsing. It has so much variety from local handicrafts, fresh garden produce to household items. Also, don’t miss out on the famous “dodol” and tasty “keropok lekor”.
