It is adjacent to Thistle Hotel and is facing the Straits of Johor. A clock tower stands mightily with a stage in front. The clock tower, which is the landmark for the area was erected not long after the declaration.
The clock tower is very iconic as it sits on the open lawn, adorned by fountains on its sides. Locals like to visit the square to watch the sunset. Dataran Bandaraya is also used for large scale official events.
