Start With Tradition But Don’t End There

A Fusion Wayang Kulit performance with Pak Dain and Tintoy Chuo.

FUSION WAYANG KULIT (Fusion WK) is an award-winning team from Malaysia, founded by Tintoy Chuo and Take-Huat (co-founder) in 2012, where the duo works closely with Mr. Pak Dain who is the 13th accredited Tok Dalang (Master Puppeteer) to revive the traditional shadow puppetry art by merging it with the digital/multimedia realm, and to spread its cultural awareness further afield while preserving the tradition in the roots of its home nation.

T. Bagak  - Altered Native

T. Bagak is a Kuching born Dayak who does Borneo folk lowbrow art from his living room. He does graphics art in his ancestor’s raw, primitive style and then cooks it with his generation’s ironic postmodern sensibilities. His main aim is to subvert the mainstream depiction of indigenous Borneo and produce a more authentic representation of the good  - & weird – folk who are actually living on the island.

He is part of Borneo Altered Natives — a loose collective of alternative folk artists across Borneo (Malaysia, Indonesia & Brunei).

Table or Mat?  A discussion between the What The Elders Left Us collaborators on Tradition, Modernity and what we think the Elders left us. Using Yee I-Lann’s provocation of tables, mats and colonialism let’s talk.
