In Indian households, 𝗠𝗮𝘁𝗹𝗶𝘀 (𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝗽𝗼𝘁𝘀) are more than vessels—they are vessels of 𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗴𝗲, 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗶𝘁𝘆.

Still commonly used in 𝗚𝘂𝗷𝗮𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶 𝗵𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘀 for storing cool water and cooking, Matlis are also 𝗯𝗲𝗮𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗳𝘂𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗱𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱 during festivals like 𝗝𝗮𝗻𝗺𝗮𝘀𝗵𝘁𝗮𝗺𝗶 and 𝗗𝗶𝘄𝗮𝗹𝗶, and play a role in 𝘄𝗲𝗱𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘂𝗮𝗹𝘀.

With intricate 𝗳𝗹𝗼𝗿𝗮𝗹, 𝗴𝗲𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗰, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗰𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗺𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗳𝘀, the art of decorating Matlis—known as 𝗠𝗮𝘁𝗹𝗶 𝗦𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗮𝗿—brings communities together, encourages intergenerational bonding, and celebrates the joy of 𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻.
