KAILAS PENANG SKYRACE 2026 is co-organized by MMTF Consultant (an international sporting event management company based in Malaysia), which remains the only member of the International Skyrunning Federation (ISF) in Malaysia since 2020, Mountain Goat Malaysia and Penang International Hiker’s.
2000 runners from around the world are expected for the 2026 race. The top global sky-running elites and global performing are expected to lead the field at KAILAS PENANG SKYRACE 2026.
There will be 3 supporting race distances to the main race namely the 5KM FUN SKY (523m +ve gain), 10KM SHORT SKY (972m +ve gain), 30KM PRO SKY (2354m +ve gain) and 50KM SKY ULTRAKS (2772m +ve gain).
50KM SKY ULTRAKS is part of the 2026 Asia Trail Master Championship Series point race. This means every runner who completes this distance within COT will earn ATM points, contributing to their overall ranking in the prestigious series.
The 30KM PRO SKY is part of the 2026 Merrell Skyrunner World Series for the 2nd year running since 2025.
Runners will be challenged through undulating forested mountain trails surrounding the UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE CITY SITE of Georgetown, Penang, where there is a good mixture of pristine and adventurous tropical jungle trails and man-made paths.
Runners in the 30KM and 50KM will be taken to Penang Hill via several hills, with the highest point at Western Hill (833m/ 2,733 ft above sea level). Runners from all around the world can expect to witness exotic orchids, farms, wildlife, and waterfalls, and be spoiled with amazing mountain-top views.
With a combined elevation gain of a minimum 2354m +ve gain, skyrunners from around the world should expect a highly physically demanding 30 KM race through the tropical jungle mountain path besides having to put up with the high humidity surroundings.
The 50KM SKY ULTRAKS, is an ultra-challenge for those who finds the 30KM PRO SKY too short.
The Pearl of Orient State of Penang, Malaysia is deemed suitable to host an international standard race such as KAILAS PENANG SKYRACE 2026 because it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site with many well-maintained “mountainous trails”.
Penang is famous for its tantalizing local street food(specifically Peranakan cuisine) and for being one of the top tourist destinations in Malaysia. It is a place where cultural tradition and modernity blend seamlessly into one. Penang is also known for its beautiful beaches, rich heritage, and alluring natural scenery. With an international airport and well-connected infrastructure, it will ease one's travel to the island.
The organization looks forward to hosting everyone and providing everyone with a memorable experience befitting the Skyrunner World Series and Asia Trail Master Championship Series status.
Since 2025, with the aim to develop the sports of skyrunning and mountain running in the country and around the region, the organization has made the event inclusive by extending the cut-off time (COT) for all the distances.
Now everyone can be a winner at KAILA
