Thou it may come as a surprise; Teacher’s Day is celebrated on different dates throughout different countries around the world. For Thailand, it falls on Jan 16, the first Friday of September for Singapore and October 5 for United Kingdom.

These dates vary as the day chosen has particular significance for the education history and teaching profession there.

In Malaysia, Hari Guru or Teachers’ Day is celebrated on May 16 because it is the day the Federal Legislative Council received the Report of the Education Committee in 1956 as the education policy for the country. The document is known as the Razak Report, which became the National Education Policy. Teachers’ Day is celebrated to commemorate the teaching profession’s contribution to educating the children.
