Bodhi Day is observed by Mahayana Buddhists. It commemorates the day when Gautama Buddha attained enlightenment under a Bodhi Tree in Bodh Gaya. Buddhists may choose to commemorate this day through meditation, study the Dharma, chanting sutras (Buddhist texts) or performing kind acts towards other beings. The Bodhi Day is celebrated on the same day as the Laba Day (Chinese) and Rohatsu (Japanese) on the 8th day of the 12th Chinese lunar month.
